Test of Honour Unboxing (Dice and Cards)

Dice and Cards Expansion

Hey Game Fans, we’re back with an unboxing article on one of the expansion sets for Test of Honour.  Today we have the Dice and Cards expansion, which is one of the few expansions that doesn’t have any models in it.  This is a fairly easy expansion, with an assortment of dice and more quests, skills, injuries, and dishonor cards. Let’s dig into what’s precisely in the pack

The Dice

This pack comes with 10 more dice, featuring the custom sword and cross faces that are on the dice in the starter set.  These dice, as shown above, are red instead of white and allow each player to roll their dice at/near the same time without confusing the results.

The Cards

There are two primary types of cards that come in each of these expansions.  First, you’ll be getting recruitment cards to match the new units available in the box.  Each Recruitment card included will have a breakdown like the one we did for the Starter Set.  You can find our original article on the Recruitment cards for the starter set (and the Samurai Warband box) here.  The card breakdowns for the current set are listed below.  This set doesn’t have any recruitment cards because it doesn’t have any models.  It does have four Skills, three Quests, an Injury, and two Dishonour Cards

Lingering Wound (Injury)

Lingering Injury must be retained for the next battle, after which it is discarded (remember that most injury cards are discarded at the end of the current battle).

Private Shame (Dishonour)

Turn this card face down (ordinarily these are only turned face down after a Test of Honour is rolled with the -1 die penalty for a Dishonour Card).

Public Disgrace (Dishonour)

When the current action is complete, all warriors in your force must test to lose their nerve.  Then turn this card face down

Vengeance

If a samurai in the same force has been cut down, this samurai gains +1 Aim.

Leap Back

If the samurai makes an attack and does not cause any damage, he may choose to be forced back 3 inches instead of 1 inch.

Fountain of Blood

Once per turn, Cutting down the first or second member of a group causes Loss of Nerve tests for the group and nearby allies.

Red Mist

Once per turn, if the Samurai has at least one blood drop, his damage bonus is triggered on 4+ swords instead of 5+.

Appaling Luck (Quest)

Roll 5 crosses in a single test.

Despicable (Quest)

Win a batlle, finishing with at least 5 Dishonour Cards.

Perfect Moment (Quest)

Roll 8 swords in a single test.

Conclusions

Adding the extra set of dice is extremely handy for two players and the extra cards add a few more options for the Injury and Dishonour decks.  The new skills and quests have some interesting synergies with other expansions.   This is a solid expansion that adds value to several different aspects of the game despite the lack of models.  It’s got an MSRP of $16.00, and you can find it on the Warlord Games Wesbtore here.  Game On, Game Fans
